The Dude Abides

I can't name many of Jeff Bridges' movies and I don't seem to remember him being in the "great actors of his generation" class before the last few months but based on his role on as The Dude alone, I was happy to see Mr. Bridges take home the Oscar for best actor tonight.

He also just seems like a nice guy.

The Dude abides. I don't know about you but I take comfort in that.

There were a few moments during his acceptance speech where he was struggling to find the right words, and it started sounding exactly like the "New shit has come to light" speech.

"A young trophy wife, in the parlance of our times, you know, and she, uh, uh, owes money all over town, including to known pornographers, and that's cool..."

I defy you to find a performance in 1998 that was better than John Goodman's in Lebowki.

That year, James Coburn won the Best Supporting Actor Oscar for some movie called Affliction. Have you ever seen that? No, me neither.

Robert Duvall, Ed Harris, Geoffrey Rush, and Billy Bob Thornton were nominated in the same category that year.

Come on, Ed Harris for the Truman Show? That movie sucked, and that performance was pretty standard really (summers in Rangoon...).
